Fake news and Misinformation On Social Media.

 

What is fake news in social media?

There are two types of fake news, one of the type of fake news/misinformations are spread through the word of mouth, and the other type are fake news/misinformations are spread through media's, internet and social media platforms.



Today we will be discussing about the fake news and misinformations that are spread through the social media platforms.


Fake news(false news)and misinformations are misleading unofficial information (which can be presented as news) are spread through the Internet and Social media platforms like:- Facebook ,lnstagram Google,Twitter, and particularly through WhatsApp Messages and much more Social networking platforms by which misinformations are spread by the people.

A Microsoft survey States that India has more fake news than anywhere else in the world!😳


About 64 percent of indians had encountered fake news as compared to the global average percent which is 57 percent. Meanwhile, 54 percent had come across internet hoaxes, in comparison to 50 percent worldwide.


About 800 people were died and about 5,800 people were admitted in the hospitals due to a misinformation related to the cure for the corona virus during the first three months of 2020. Many died by drinking methanol or alcohol-based products. They wrongly believed that these products/ informations could be a cure for the virus.😕

Who Creates/publishes Fake news and misinformations and why would they do so?

A fake news or misinformations are created for many purposes. Some of purpose can be for aiming to damage or destroy the reputation of a person or entity, or for money/revenue making purposes which are done by hoax website owners for attracting and gaining viewers and traffic to their websites . We must try to stay away from hoax websites as much as possible.!



Who spreads these fake News or misinformations?

The simple answer to this question is common people like us spreads fake news by blindly believing messages, posts,news which are recieved from unofficial Sources, like a random Whatsapp message,Facebook Post or a YouTube video and much more. And without researching or realizing the truth of the news/information that we receive,we would blindly share those messages to our friends, teachers, family members,relatives etc. And these messages would be forwarded and forwarded by many people and it would spread the whole social media. So before sharing any news or information, Study and research if these news or information is true.
